Gorkha was a hill rajya among the baise-chaubise rajyas. Gorkhali meant a person from Gorkha just like Palpali, Jhapali, Jumli, and Lamjunge.

Bahun, Magar, Gurung, and Khas (and Khawas) were the communities that were in the army of Prithvi Narayan Shah. But many merchants, and peasants also contributed in the conquest of Kathmandu valley.

The members of ruling families and their relatives (the ancestors of Thakuris) also fought and contributed for Prithvi Narayan Shah.

These ancestors of Thakuris were considered as above the society- they were not a part of general society since Raja was a super natural being, who was expected to keep the egalitarian society in normal order. So his family members were also treated as being scared. Only during the Rana rule, the Thakuris were treated like ordinary people.
